Ian McCall was slated to combat Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but sadly had to pull out due to injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast that Sunday to talk about his most recent injury. Injury that forced him from Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear from my bicep. I mean I’m literally at the physicians now talking about it. It’s exactly what it is, we train hard and I am fragile apparently. I have to pull from a good deal of s**t. It stinks, but when you train as hard as I do and you’ve been doing so as long as I do, its part of the match ” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC profession has been only been plagued with accidents and it’s frustrating. This is my main source of income, I still have other things I do however, that is my principal source. I’ve got a little girl to feed, I feed on my own and it sucks. However, on another note, this really is my passion; this is what I really like to perform. I’m 31 years old, I am not getting younger I’ve already been in fights for 13 decades. To watch my body fail me time and time again it’s hard. It is one of those things it makes you wonder a good deal. I am such a healthy person, my household is like amazingly healthy, and you know my daughter has to have a really strict diet. I have had my hip, groin tear, that is bad. I’m sure I’ll need to get a hip replacement eventually. I have had three hand surgeries. I got into a car accident not long ago and messed up my shoulder. It’s always something, but it is far better than having a real job.” Being Positive and Optimistic”Most of my life I’ve been a pessimist to be honest. I look at it in various ways, it might be worse, I might be dead. I might have lost complete use of my arm or whatever. There are a lot of things I look at. I have to keep a positive attitude because I must be a good role model for team-mates and my child. It is one of these things I’m not going to sit around and sulk. That is what it is, I’ll be al right.” Ideas on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II in UFC 191″Demetrious is evolving and I believe that now he has found a bit more power in his punches. His overall game is always changing and getting better. I think he will beat Dodson, is he going to finish [him]? I really don’t understand. I believe this will be one man he’ll have a hard time finishing. He finished Horoguchi with one second left, as much as I want to beat his face , he is outstanding. He’s the precise man you want as winner when it comes to performance. I’m going to go together on this one for sure.” Reduction to John Lineker”Oh man which was enormous. I got overly emotional; I revealed the very first round I could definitely beat him. People were like’Oh he’s a bantamweight’ I don’t care; the guy still isn’t very good I must have beat him. I think I showed that you’re not likely to knock me out even though you’re a big puncher. My face is going to split open until you knock me out and that is exactly what happened. With me it’s outside matters, they constantly distract me, girl problems or what have you. I just kind of dropped after that first round. I’m smart enough to know that I was going to lose that struggle sitting . Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came about and said hi and I’m just kind of like, I’m screwed. This was a psychological thing, that’s always been my biggest downfall. I have a new mental coach, he is my thoughts Sherpa. He is overall made me a better individual. As far as goes, he is a large part of it.” Feeling Overlooked at Flyweight Division”I wouldn’t say overlooked, there’s other folks to discuss. I blew it with John; I screwed up in that struggle. So perhaps I don’t deserve to be talked about it. Let’s say this injury is just 6 months, they’ll talk about me after that, that is alright. You can find other people who deserve it. Regardless of how good I could be or how good I am, it is not my turn. DJ needs individuals to struggle, the division needs people to move and shake and make a big jolt. I do not mind it, it is cool, anything.” Raising a daughter as a single dad”Yeah it’s not easy; realistically I do not know anything about women. I know how to get one in mattress that is about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what’s going on?’ Don’t cut your hair, don’t put soap in places, like I do not understand. Realistically I’ve a lot help, I live with my dad. My father got a divorce, he said move in, and I’ll help you out. My dad’s retired so he sort of plays mommy on a daily basis. My step mom is still around; my kid’s grandma is around so that I do have a great deal of help. So I am not going to say I am doing this alone, because I’m not. It requires a village to raise a kid and I received a village of people around me. Even if there are times where I have to take her into the gym, there is always some one there. She is pretty damn independent I can take her to the beach; she can run around and swim on her own. She’s going to be alright.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I’d like to work for a fashion design firm; the sole fighters I hang out with are either people I am forced to hang out my friends. I hang out with artists, fashion designers and musicians and materials. They are hideous, such as Jose Aldo said we seem like f***kin Power Rangers. The gear is really comfy; obviously Reebok creates a fantastic item. I really don’t know who left the layout, regardless of what generation we are in 80’s 90’s, which does not match anything, it is just ugly. But perhaps I’m wrong; maybe I am looking for something a little cooler looking. Its functionality based gear; that is all that matters. It’s an evolution of the sport. We needed it to shine, sure we are not likely to get paid that much money but it’s what it is. In case you’ve got a problem then stop, these are the amounts we have to deal with. Now if you are smart and you are able to market yourself and advertise yourself in ways like I’ve. I have external sponsors; I have Layrite, that is like a hair and mustache merchandise. I’ve got a great deal of clothes and lifestyle businesses. I receive a good deal of exposure from stuff like this. People today need to know to step outside the boxmake money for themselves and have a smart agent.” Thoughts on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been nice, but at exactly the same time they run a business. They run a multi-billion dollar company that’s a premiere sports league. If you find the machine that is your UFC, in the inside it’s incredible. The people are excellent; the business design is simply remarkable. I wouldn’t ever say anything bad about how it’s all operate, it’s amazing if you appreciate business. The matter is they did not have to consult us because it’s their organization. We’re a commodity; as much as I want to say trendy we ought to be making money such as baseball, soccer and basketball. Since we should we’re really putting our lives at stake. But we’re not and I do not want to estimate Urijah Faber, he stated’I never got into this for the cash’ honestly I catch it, I am a businessman.” Outside patrons”Financially I am going to be ok. I’m always going to find methods [to make money]. I own part of a social media company, I own a series that I host called Direct Endorsement, and it is a significant charity matter. I’ve got other stuff that’s going to make me more money, therefore I will be ok. I do feel for men that don’t have much else or men that are not that smart. But that’s their own fault, figure it out it’s not rocket science.” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” series”Yeah I was talking to Joe not too long ago. I’ve a growing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we constantly talk about it but it’s a little bit of a drive out of my home with all the visitors. I will be up there shortly, I have to do some stuff in the region so that I’ll be on there shortly.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma along with his sponsor DirectEndorcements.com.
